Kingaroy, the largest town in South Burnett, is situated two-hundred and nine kilometres or about two and a half hours drive Northwest of Brisbane CBD. The name Kingaroy is believed to have found its name from the Aboriginal word 'Kinjerroy', which refers to a type of red ant found in the area. It is from this that the Kingaroy Rugby League football team are suitably known as the “Red Ants”. Kingaroy Shire has a population of 12,500 residents and takes in an area of 2,422 square kilometres.
