

Kingaroy, the largest town in South Burnett, is situated two-hundred and nine kilometres or about two and a half hours drive Northwest of Brisbane CBD. The name Kingaroy is believed to have found its name from the Aboriginal word 'Kinjerroy', which refers to a type of red ant found in the area. It is from this that the Kingaroy Rugby League football team are suitably known as the “Red Ants”. Kingaroy Shire has a population of 12,500 residents and takes in an area of 2,422 square kilometres.
This agricultural town is often refered to as the 'Peanut Capital of Australia'. While driving through Kingaroy, you can't but notice the large peanut silos, which have become almost an iconic feature of the town itself. You can take a tour of the peanut factories in Kingaroy to discover what exactly is involved in the growing, harvesting, distribution and selling of various kinds of peanuts. The Kingaroy PCA Peanut Festival takes place every year during the month of August. This is an annual celebration of rural Queensland and its people. They have everything form peanut competitions, games, workshops, races and most of all a fun day of for all. You don't have to be nuts about peanuts for this one!
